Dundee West 2008 Royals welcomed Bayside FC to Baldragon Academy in the 2nd round of the East Region Cup. Having played Bayside last season in the same competition, we knew this would be a tough game.
The Royals started positively, having the majority of possession and moving the ball well, although not causing too many problems for Bayside in the final third. That was until West won a free kick inside the oppositions half on the 30 minute mark and from this, Michael Gray delivered a good ball into the 18 yard box, which Bayside failed to clear and the ball fell to Charlie Webster, who controlled it then fired it into the back of the net (1-0).
Five minutes later, and after a few positional changes up top, West were again on the scoresheet after a Finlay Simpson flick on / header put Keiran Luke in behind the Bayside defence, who cheekily fired the ball through the keepers legs and into the net (2-0).
HT 2-0
The Royals started the second half at the same high tempo they finished the first, and on 44 mins, Ben Martin played an excellent through ball for Charlie Webster, who slipped the ball past the keeper to give the Royals a 3-0 lead. West were now in full flow, and three minutes later Keiran Luke was in possession, driving down the wing and delivered an excellent cross into the box to be met again by Charlie, who side foots the ball out of the keepers reach and into the top corner (4-0). Although four goals behind, Bayside were still working hard, and on 55 mins the Bayside left winger cut inside his man and shot from approx 25 yards out to find the far side top corner of the goal! It was the goal of the match which Kyle Wilson had no chance of saving (4-1).
Bayside now had their tails up and were causing West a few issues, but the West defence remained solid and kept Bayside's chances to a minimum. Next on the scoresheet, on 70 mins, was again West, after a brilliant through ball from Carden Forbes found a well timed run from Ben Martin, who calmly slotted the ball past the keeper and into the net for the final goal of the game (5-1).
FT 5-1.
