Dundee West Girls U12 Reds - Match Report 05.11.22

06/11/2022

Todays match saw a depleted Reds side travel with 9 players to Hercules Den to play a much improved Arbroath side. The Reds had no goalkeeper so two outfield players Lacy and Devon took turns keeping goal. As it turned out both made terrific saves to keep the Arbroath attack at bay. The pitch was heavy and the rain fell on a cold Saturday morning but the action was intense.

Arbroath put on the early pressure but it was the Reds that counteracted with Grace and Devon on the left setting up Layla to finish clinically. Shortly after the Reds began to dominate and after good work down the right with Chloe and Taylor the ball came across the pitch to the edge of the box. Oorlagh didn’t break stride and smashed the ball high into the top corner from the edge of the box for a wonderful finish. This was quickly followed by Neve who lobbed the keeper from just inside the box after great pressure from the Reds. Arbroath pulled a goal back and pushed for a second but were denied by a superb save from Lacy just before the half.

Arbroath came out for the second half and used their physicality well but for all their efforts it was the reds with their usual one touch and two touch passing and team work that made the difference. Layla went on to score 5 more goals the pick of which was a swivel turn and finish into the goal with her left foot. Oorlagh also got on the scoresheet again when she ran onto a cross and calmly passed the ball into the corner to round off a terrific team performance that all can be proud of from the Reds.

Lacey Pope was a rock in the middle of defence as were Grace and Chloe who coped with the strength of the Arbroath side impressively. Taylor was outstanding on the right with her aggressive pressing. Devon pulled off a diving save in the second half too and both outfield players that took turns in goal were immense.

Well done to Arbroath who will definitely be tough opposition for all who play them but again credit to the Reds for another outstanding display in Arbroath.
